Delta 7

Diversity + Music + Community = Advocacy

One of our favourite activities is Delta 7. One of their band members is a client here at Tinkers, and regularly performs at gigs across East Sussex, including here at Tinkers! Formed as the result of an Arts Connect music course in 2014 Delta 7 offer an uplifting and powerful voice for everyone who feels a little outside of the mainstream.  The 7 piece rock band are now celebrating more than 10 years of making music together and their story has been captured in two award winning films directed by Rosie Baldwin: We Rise and DELTA 7EVEN.

If you would like to support Delta 7 you can stream their albums Summer Waves and The Lockdown Sessions on Spotify and iTunes. You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram. If you would like to enquire about a booking for Delta 7 or simply to find out more about the band email: julia@cultureshift.co.uk

Funding Delta 7

Delta 7 is funded by the People’s Health Trust, an independant charity investing in local neighbourhoods to create a society without health inequalities. The money raised  goes on supporting Delta 7 as they continue to grow from strength to strength.

Community Garden

East Hoathly Community Garden has become an important focal point for some of the Tinkers clients and they really look forward to their weekly visits. They are learning a multitude of new skills and gardening knowledge and making solid friendships along the way.

Community and therapeutic values have been formented by everyone working alongside people from different backgrounds and needs and this purposeful ‘togetherness’ often results in increasing confidence, communication skills, and pride in their work We are planning to do many more immersive community events in the spring / summer, including exhibiting  in the local village fetes, establishing woodcraft sessions, and participation in  East Hoathly village events. These  future plans will include more people from Tinkers, including staff, and organisers are always open to suggestions and new ideas.

Sanctuary Farm

One of our most popular activities is Sanctuary Farm. Our residents regulaly enjoy going to the farm and learning about it and working with the animals. The farm regularly engage with Tinkers, regularly sending eggs back for breakfast, and is easily accessible for clients.

Clients regularly help with various jobs around the farm from herding sheep and feeding the lambs to hatching and handling turkeys. Clients can also go on trailer rides to check the flocks. Through regular visits to the farm clients can see how the farm changes throughout the year, and learn where food comes from in a easily explained manner. Sanctuary Farm also offer arts and crafts for clients on the field making visits to Sanctuary Farm a firm favourite with many of our clients at Tinkers.

Our clients have really benefitted from visits to Sanctuary Farm, growing in confidence and gaining a lot from it.

Inspire, Eastbourne

Our clients regularly attend Inspire, Eastbourne where they can engage in activities such as: music, dance, and board games. One of our residents works as a waitress at Inspire at their cafe, serving cakes, ordering stock, and washing up. Inspire provides a space where clients can meet and make new friends, as well as being a place to reconnect with old friends and maintain those friendships.

Baking

Food at Tinkers is all home cooked, and our clients regularly enjoy helping to bake food using some of the produce grown in our garden.

Smart Goals

Some of our clients like to have a “smart goal”. This is a long term goal of their choice that they can aim for and work towards achieving.

Literacy

Individual personalised literacy projects are available for our clients to help improve literacy skills.

Newsletter Group

Our newsletter group meets regularly to create our monthly newsletter, featuring upcoming events, birthdays, sports and more!

Cookery

Residents also have the choice of cooking as an activity. This takes place in the cottage with Sharon regularly and is greatly enjoyed.

ChristChurch, Hailsham

It is such a delight to receive a group of around 12 eager Tinkers Hatch friends at Christchurch! All participate enthusiastically in every aspect of our mornings together not only in the worship songs and the message but also in the coffee time. We are meeting many new friends every week and Tinkers Hatch have become a genuine part of the church family. Some display such a delightful sense of humour and the honesty is infective. Wow, what a real buzz our friends bring to the church. Regularly other members of the church family express such gratitude for the lively participation even moving their normal seating choice to be closer to the group. They are no longer ‘visitors’ – they are members of the family! Occasionally the enthusiasm of some spills onto stage which we all enjoy a lot. At Christchurch we look forward to integrating those who would like to do more in things like welcome team, worship team etc. A team from Christchurch also enjoy regular get togethers at Tinkers Hatch singing action songs, doing craft, enjoying bible stories and bringing heart felt prayers for things that concern us all. It is such a fun time together! There have also been sad times of course. Especially when we lose a close friend or relative, or a family member becomes sick and we are able to gain comfort together in God’s presence with outstanding sensitivity. Our celebration of Christian festivals is second to none! Thank you for making us your home.

Note: Tinkers Hatch is secular, but is welcoming of all religions and denominations and aims to provide activities for those with faith. We receive no funding from the church.
